Salesman Honesty

Once upon a time, two salesmen Sam and Tom came up together to a far away town. They used to sell hand-made jewels. When they came to town they decided that one will sell in one part of town and the other will sell in another part.

Also, after one has gone through an area once, others can go and sell in that part of town.

In the street a little girl saw a salesman with jewels and wanted to buy it. She went to her grandma and asked her for money.

Grandma replied, “Honey, we don’t have any money to buy even proper food other than how can I buy you a bracelet..”

Girl was disappointed but still wanted to buy a jewel for herself. She went inside the kitchen and bought an old blackish plate and said, “Grandma, if we don’t have money, can’t we buy one in exchange for this plate..”

Grandma replied, “Ok dear.. I will give it a try..”

Grandma asked the salesman (Sam) to come inside. Sam saw their condition and understood that they were poor so responded rudely to them.

Old lady was holding that plate and showed it to the salesman saying, “I don’t have money but you can take this plate in exchange for a bracelet.”

Sam didn’t want to waste much time with them so just to get over with it he looked at that plate but to his surprise he found out that it was made of gold. He got greedy and thought to himself that he could deceive that old lady and could get the plate by paying the least.

So he planned that he would leave for now and return later when she would accept even less for the plate.

He didn’t let on that he noticed it and said, “This is not even worth one bracelet. You can’t get anything for this..” and left.

Meanwhile, another salesman (Tom) had finished his part of town and now went toward another part of town.

He ended up reaching the same house as the old lady. Seeing the salesman, the little girl again went to her grandma and asked for a bracelet.

For the little girl's happiness, grandma went to the salesman and showed him the plate and said, “Can you give me one bracelet in exchange for this old plate??”

Tom humbly replied, “Sure..” and examined it and found that it was a gold plate.

He replied to her, “Mam, all my goods and money altogether are not worth this plate. It’s very costly.”

Old woman was shocked at the discovery but seeing Tom's honest reply she said, “If you know its value, I will gladly accept whatever you can offer in exchange for this plate..”

Tom took out all his stuff and money and said, “Mam, i will give you all these plus all the money, if you just let me keep a few coins to return to the city… in exchange for a golden plate..”

Old lady accepted his offer. Tom left with a gold plate and some coins to pay for the ferry to return to the city.

After sometime Sam returned thinking of all the money he could get with that plate and went to the old lady.

Sam went to her and said, “I have changed my mind.. I can offer you a few cents for that useless black plate..”

Old lady was angry with him for lying yet calmly replied to him, “You lied to us.. Another salesman came and he told us the value of the plate and made a trade with us. He has left with that plate. I have nothing to do with you now..”

Sam could do nothing now. His greediness has caused him great loss.

Moral: One should not get Greedy and try to Cheat others and live Life with Honesty.

McDow Hole – Anatomy Of A Texas Ghost Story

Spooky Texas legend of the McDow Hole, where ghost sightings of pioneer woman Jenny Papworth and her baby have long been reported.  Written by Bob Hopkins . I first heard the legendary tale of the Ghost of the McDow Hole in the fifteenth year of my youth. It was near Halloween in October 1975 when a friend related the tale of the ghost that haunts a creek bed in rural Erath County and naturally I believed every word of it in the twilight of an evening spent with friends telling ghost stories. I would again hear the tale over the years while living in North Central Texas. It wasn’t until my chance encounter of meeting an author of the legend in 2002 that my curiosity began to peak and like any good investigator I felt it my duty to dig deeper into the hundred year old tale of pioneer folklore to see how much of the story was true and how much was fabricated. I would discover many similarities in fact and fiction that I believed would leave any reader with the same curiosity that I fel

Mama Coon Coon: A Louisiana Swamp Folktale

Now I’ll just bet that none of you have ever heard the story of Mama Coon Coon and the blue waters of the bayou, have you? Well, we know the story, and I think we need to tell it to you right now. Once upon a time, the waters of the bayou were black – as black as ink. Now, even though these waters were black, they were still filled with lots and lots of fishes, shrimp and crab. And all of the fishermen would wake up early in the morning, long before the sun had even come above the horizon, and they would cast their nets down into the deep, black water. And what a wonderful sight it was at the end of the day to watch those fishermen pulling in their nets overflowing with all kinds of fishes, shrimp and crab. Dulac Louisiana Bayou by  Clem . You see, that is the name the local village children gave her because

Belle Boyd, Confederate Spy

One warm spring day, I left my home in Washington, D.C. and took a long drive through the rolling, peaceful farm country in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. I worked in the city as a tax accountant, but most of my co-workers didn’t know about my secret hobby – I was a Civil War collector. Ever since I was a child, I had collected old Civil War books, maps, clothing, and in later years, weapons. Now as a middle-aged man, my interest had grown to what some would call an obsession. Although it’s hard to believe today, this peaceful Virginia valley was the scene of some of the bloodiest battles of the war. Driving through this historic land not only satisfied my hunger for history, but calmed my nerves far away from the hustle and bustle of home. Some folks say that ghosts wander the earth in places where horrible deaths took place, their lives suddenly ripped away from them before they knew what happened. So it’s no wonder that so many Civil War ghost stories come from the Shenandoah Valle
